Taunton School

It is certainly a very exciting time to join Taunton School. We are in the midst of a hugely ambitious campus development plan to enhance the school’s already outstanding facilities. Following the completion of the new Dining Hall, Sixth Form Centre and Library, work now begins on exciting new play spaces as we develop the Green Heart of the campus, transformational improvements to sporting facilities and, ultimately, an outstanding new international school which will unite all Taunton School pupils on the same site.

Our mission is to ensure that the education we provide at Taunton School plays to the strengths of each and every child. We aim to challenge, nurture and inspire all those who join our community. Our school is large enough to provide a breadth of opportunity yet small enough for everyone to feel part of a connected community.

CELEBRATING 175 YEARS OF TAUNTON SCHOOL

We’ve come a long way since we were founded in 1847 and we’re proud of all that we’ve achieved. 

As we celebrate 175 years of Taunton School, we look back on some of the key milestones that make up our history and celebrate all corners of our community.

As an IB World School, we are innovative, forward thinking, global in outlook and down to earth in approach. We are one school but each part is unique in character. We recognise that a balanced education is vital in developing the whole person.

FACILITIES

We have an enviably spacious 56-acre campus on the edge of Taunton in Somerset. We pride ourselves on keeping up to date with advances in technology and communication. We are fortunate to be surrounded by beautiful, natural open space with lots of specially designated outdoor areas for the pupils to enjoy.

Our extensive sports fields, astro pitches and pavilions are utilised all year round and we have two excellent indoor swimming pools. Our large sports halls have indoor cricket practice facilities, squash courts, a climbing wall, fitness suite and dance studios. Our beautiful historic buildings encompass vibrant modern classrooms, and specialist Arts, Music and Drama spaces. The Design and Technology departments offer all the latest equipment including 3D printers, Laser Cutters and Computer-Aided Design software and our bespoke ICT suites provide students with an exceptional learning experience. Our Science department is housed in its own beautiful block and with fully equipped laboratories. 

The Prep school has classrooms fitted with interactive whiteboards and Apple TV, class sets of iPads and Touchscreen IT suites, a Performing Arts centre including a specialist Music room and practice rooms, a Music Tech Suite, a Dance Studio, a large Hall, and cookery and food technology classrooms.

CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT NEWS

We are proud to be investing in a £20million world-class campus development project, commencing in February 2022.

The development will include a new state-of-the-art sixth-form centre and library for students, followed by proposals for enhanced sports facilities and a brand new international school built on the main campus. The project also includes the creation of a green and sustainable pedestrianised hub linking boarding houses, teaching and dining blocks.
