Llandovery College

Llandovery College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls from 4 to 18 years old set in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Its pupils receive a bespoke academic education tailored to excite and inspire young minds.

Set within 45 acres of beautiful grounds, Llandovery College boasts excellent facilities, first class teaching in small class sizes and a huge range of opportunities for intellectual, social and physical development. As a broad-ability and all- inclusive school, the College is proud to cater for each pupil’s individual requirements thus enabling them to excel at all levels.

The college is equipped with over 45 acres of playing fields, an all-weather pitch, climbing wall, gym and weights room and a 9-hole golf course.

Curriculum

All pupils in the preparatory school and up to Year 9 are required to learn Welsh.

On St David's Day 2011, the college opened Wales' first Confucius classroom to facilitate the teaching of Mandarin Chinese, with Prince Charles and Chinese Ambassador to the UK Liu Xiaoming both in attendance.

Nursery

Their bilingual Nursery School was opened in September 2014. Babies and children from 0 to 4 years are welcomed and cared for in a safe, happy and stimulating environment and in the hands of trained practitioners who facilitate an early learning kick start to each child’s educational journey.

Registered with the Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales, the Nursery is located within the beautiful setting of Llandovery College and, in addition to all that it has to offer on site, benefits from the use of other College facilities such as the extensive grounds, sports hall, medical center and catering facilities.

Llandovery College Nursery School is dedicated to providing a first class childcare and education facility, for the older children, through structured activities based on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS Wales).

Prep School

Llandovery College Prep School provides outstanding facilities and exceptional teaching in small classes. Their dedicated and highly qualified teachers are committed to providing each child with an exciting, fun and stimulating learning environment where every pupil is valued, nurtured and appreciated for their talents, achievements and efforts.

They are a small school and you will often hear parents speak of a tangible sense of community and belonging as soon as they step through the gates. Their boys and girls forge friendships for life and are part of a close, caring and supportive community while receiving excellent academic monitoring and pastoral care.

Llandovery Prep offers a rounded and broad curriculum with a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics. In addition pupils have the added bonus of receiving specialist subject teaching in English, Mathematics, Science, Sport, Music and Drama and access the many facilities and opportunities available in the Senior School.

Sport and healthy living is an important focus with weekly all year round swimming and a whole school morning run complementing the busy sports schedule along with an extensive co-curricular program and a flourishing on-site Forest School.

Senior School

Llandovery College’s Inspiring Futures program is designed to provide assistance with ‘futures planning’, helping their pupils make well-informed and confident decisions regarding their futures beyond school. Assisting pupils in making the best academic option choices is central to the Inspiring Futures process.

The program combines traditional advice on university applications and careers, enriching this guidance with work experience opportunities and professionally led workshops and seminars. Pupils also develop a ‘My Future’ portfolio, documenting their achievements en route to realizing their goals.

The program has a specific focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives which open up this world of opportunity and their team is always available to offer advice and support to pupils and their families.

Extracurricular activities

There is a wide range of extracurricular activities and opportunities for pupils. Llandovery is known for its sporting tradition and rugby remains one of the more popular sports. Other sports available include football, cricket, hockey, netball and athletics.
