Oglethorpe University

Chartered by the state of Georgia in 1835, the university commenced operations in 1838 with four faculty members and about 25 students at Midway, a small community near Milledgeville, then the capital of Georgia.

The Oglethorpe University - International Study Centre offers more than 60 programs of study. Oglethorpe University provides a superior education in which liberal arts and sciences and professional programs complement each other in a small-college environment within a dynamic urban setting. 

Admission Requirements Include:

• Your level of English language competency
• Proof of your academic ability

International Year

• Academic: High school graduate, minimum GPA of 2.5
• English language: Minimum IELTS score of 5.0 (or equivalent)
• Age: 17+

Direct Entry to Your Degree

If you meet the academic requirements of the University and the higher English language requirements below (or speak English as a first language), you can apply directly to an undergraduate degree program.

• IELTS: 6.5 overall
• TOEFL: 79

International Scholarships

International students are eligible for the full range of merit scholarships that Oglethorpe offers to freshman and transfer applicants. International first-year applicants who submit all required documentation by Nov. 15 may be eligible to attend Oglethorpe’s annual Scholarship Weekend in January, during which Oglethorpe awards up to ten full-tuition scholarships. The Lanier, University, Oxford and Presidential awards range from $16,000/yr. – $21,000/yr. International Baccalaureate students who complete the IB Diploma Programme and earn an IB diploma will also receive a $1,500/year renewable scholarship.

International Financial Aid

International students are eligible for consideration for need-based financial assistance from Oglethorpe University. Upon acceptance, Oglethorpe will provide you with the International Student Financial Aid Form, which you can complete to request additional need-based aid. Please note that the US federal government’s need-based student aid programs are not available to non-US citizens.

F-1 Student Visa Sponsorship

Oglethorpe offers F-1 Student Visa sponsorship and will issue an I-20 to students as soon as they have paid an enrollment deposit and demonstrated funding for at least one year of tuition. If you are a permanent resident, or a student who identifies as DACA or undocumented, you are considered a domestic student for admission purposes and do not need to submit any additional documentation.

• Sometimes life can be tough; we get that. The Counseling Center has skilled professionals on campus to support our students through life’s challenges. Our counselors are experienced with issues like stress, anxiety, depression and eating disorders. And if you just want to talk, they can do that, too.
• Drop by the A_LAB and visit the ASC, your one-stop-shop for academic support. You’ll find free tutoring and writing help, group study rooms, one-on-one academic advising, and disability services.
• We’re all working together to build a close-knit community of quirky, kind, and talented individuals with a million different interests. Residence life is a huge part of that experience, so all students live on campus for three years, and some choose to stay until they graduate.

All seven residence halls are designed with student comfort in mind. You can count on having a cozy place to study, socialize, and sleep
