Massey University (Māori: Te Kunenga ki Pūrehuroa) is a university based in Palmerston North, New Zealand, with significant campuses in Albany and Wellington. Massey University has approximately 30,883 students, 13,796 of whom are extramural or distance-learning students, making it New Zealand's second largest university when not counting international students. Research is undertaken on all three campuses, and more than 3,000 international students from over 100 countries study at the university.

Massey University is the only university in New Zealand offering degrees in aviation, dispute resolution, veterinary medicine, and nanoscience. Massey's veterinary school is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and is recognised in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Britain. Its agriculture programme is the highest-ranked in New Zealand, and 19th in Quacquarelli Symonds' (QS) world university subject rankings. Massey's Bachelor of Aviation (Air Transport Pilot) is an internationally recognised and accredited qualification, is the first non-engineering degree to be recognised by the Royal Aeronautical Society (1998), and has ISO9001-2000 accreditation.

Campuses

Massey University has campuses in the Manawatu at Palmerston North, at Wellington (in the suburb of Mt Cook) and on Auckland's North Shore at Albany. In addition, Massey offers most of its degrees extramurally within New Zealand and internationally. It has the nation's largest business college. Research is undertaken on all three campuses.

New Zealand's first satellite, KiwiSAT is currently being designed and built by New Zealand Radio Amateurs with the support of Massey, especially in space environment testing.

Undergraduate academic entrance requirements

For most undergraduate level programmes, the minimum academic entry requirement is successful completion of a qualification equivalent to the New Zealand Year 13 - NCEA Level 3 University Entrance. International students need to check the equivalency of their secondary school qualification by reviewing the list of Academic Admission Requirements by Country/Region.

International students who have previously studied at a New Zealand secondary school should refer to the secondary school requirements section.

International students who have completed 3 x B at level 5 or 6 passes in the New Zealand Diploma of Business may apply for entry into a Bachelor's programme.

The English language requirement:

  • A recent IELTS 6.0 with no band score less than 5.5

Accomodation

Halls of residence and apartments

Massey University has a variety of accommodation options across three campuses. Accommodation options include either catered or self-catered packages.

Dedicated and professional pastoral care teams provide 24/7 support to all residents. Each team has experience in education, social work, youth work and customer service. Residential Assistants live in the student accommodation. They welcome new residents, support them and create a fun and safe community.

All accommodation is smoke-free and some halls are alcohol-free.

Residents are responsible for cleaning their own bedrooms, apartments and studios. They must clean-up after themselves in communal spaces.

Auckland halls

Massey's Auckland campus is in Albany, on Auckland's North Shore. Local amenities include a shopping mall, cinema, libraries, and many cafes and restaurants. The campus is also a short drive to the excitement of Auckland's central city and Viaduct Harbour.

Te Ōhanga Village is the hub for student living and located in the heart of Massey's Auckland campus. The village consists of:

  • three catered halls of residence, with a total of 210 single bedrooms
  • self-catered apartments for 70 residents
  • 12 self-catered studio units.

Manawatū halls

Massey's Manawatū campus is where is all began over 90 years ago. The historic buildings and beautiful gardens reflect the history of the campus. If you enjoy the outdoors, Manawatū halls is where you want to live. Walk or cycle the Manawatū River, go tramping or visit one of the nearby beaches. It's all here!

Wellington halls

Wellington is a diverse and dynamic city with New Zealand's most creative campus! It's all at your door when you live at a Massey hall of residence.

Residents of The Cube and Kāinga Rua halls share activities and events that foster academic success and build strong life skills. The pastoral care team make sure the experience is cohesive and positive for all hall residents with their 24/7 support.
