The name "Soonchunhyang" means "the peaceful hometown complying with the will of heaven." In 1978 Dr. Succ-Jo Suh, a renowned authority in neurology established Soonchunhyang Medical College with fewer than one hundred students to educate aspiring doctors.His philosophy of medical practice was, “It is not a doctor, but Heaven that cures a disease. A doctor helps only the curing process.” With this humble philosophy and beginnings, SCH set off and transformed itself to a highly respected institution of higher education and research.The University currently has six colleges and six graduate schools with over 12,000 students enrolled and approximately 380 faculty members. In addition, the university is running four general hospitals in four major cities in Korea creating an up-to-date medical network.The University offers a rich variety of courses in Medicine and Natural Sciences, as well as all professional field including Humanities, Business Administration and Engineering.SCH has particularly strong medicine and medical sciences departments and has constantly strived to excel in both education and research. SCH’s reputation for quality education has been continually proved when the Ministry of Education has granted the "National Award for Educational Renovation" for three successive years.

The university main administration has its own administrative offices run by non-teaching staff to ensure that the every administrative matter of the university runs smoothly. These offices are governed by the Vice President and the Vice President of External Affairs answerable only to the president of the university. The Division of Academic Affairs ensures that the quality and quantity of teaching offered in SCH meets the requirements set out by the body of national education standards.The office of Planning is responsible for creating a variety of projects that meet the ongoing requirements of the university. The division of Student Affairs offers such guidance and awareness of students’ needs.The main administration also has the office of Administration which is divided into four departments; General Affairs, Material Acquisition, Maintenance and Facilities, and Accounting. Each office is responsible for the administrative wellbeing of the community of SCH, including faculty research support, facility maintenance and balancing the university budget.The office of External Affairs including the departments of External affairs and Public Relations makes sure that the community is well aware of the effect that SCH has on them. This includes media coverage and staging of external events.The division of Career Development Service Center helps students to prepare for job market and to be best suited in that ultimate environment. The center provides various services to the university family including career counseling, job listings and searches.

Graduate School

The graduate school was established in 1983. Despite its short history, the graduate school has been instrumental in the furthering education of over fifteen hundred students, with over 800 Ph.D. and 70 honorary degrees since its inauguration. It is SCH's duty to maintain the highest standards of education and the Graduate School exemplifies this by instructing its students with techniques that elevates their personal and academic ability. The graduate school offers masters and doctoral degree programs from five academic fields: Liberal and Social Sciences, Natural Science, Engineering, Arts & Physical Education, and Medical Science.

The university has a nationwide network of hospitals Seoul, Chonan, Gumi and Bucheon. The university hospitals are equipped with the most advanced diagnostic, treatment and surgical equipment in the nation, and provides excellent service to patients. In addition, the education system of the university hospitals nurtures students as true physicians with compassion. Soonchunhyang's young medical students annually volunteer to provide medical services to underprivileged people requiring medical care. Campus Dormitories

Office Residence Hall

The University provides housing to 3,100 students in four residence Halls. The Office of Residence Hall provides quality service by addressing student concerns and keeping a clean and safe environment. Each Residence Hall is equipped with such amenities as high speed internet access, computer labs, exercise equipment, recreational facilities, laundry facilities, and lounge areas. The office promotes such social and cultural events to build a strong sense of community and maintains "Wall of Best" for outstanding residental students to honor their excellence in academics and other areas.

Global Village Dormitory

The Global Village housing 543 students was built in 2006 with the sole purpose of fitting the needs of the international and korean students residing together. The dorm benefits both of them on a daily basis from co-existent life style to endorse each other's differing cultures. Each student draws on the other’s abilities during guided exchange meetings to further their depth of language and cultural understanding.

The dormitory is configured in suite style living arrangement which allows 12 students to live in 1 suite. Each suite has 2 bathrooms, 2 showers, and 2 sinks. There are 6 sleeping rooms that are connected by a common living room furnished with a TV and couch. Every room is air-conditioned. The Global Village dormitory is divided into 4 separate buildings with a central hub. The Central hub connects to each building via glass tunnels. In the hub you will find a lobby area with vending machines and computers. There are classrooms which are used for study. There is also a computer lounge and laundry service.

Sunrise Hall

Adjacent to the Global Village lies the Sunrise Hall which houses 546 students, The first floor serves as a reception area and restaurant where students and professors can enjoy traditional Korean cuisine. The lower floor is equipped with an extensive exercise gymnasium, a billiards hall, singing rooms, a well stocked store, and a western style cafeteria.

Haemaji Hall

In 2010 the residence hall adds its modern and updated facility of eight story building which can house 970 students. It is a self-contained community where office of residence hall and athletic office are located. The lower floor is equipped with an exercise gymnasium, a store, and a cafeteria. There are lecture rooms of the Korean language for international students. This hall features study rooms, a laundry room, computer lab with high-speed internet access, lounge with a large-screen TV, and multi-purpose room. The guest rooms and athletic quarters are also in the building.

Haksung Hall

Haksung Hall comprises of three separate dark brown brick buildings located centrally within the SCH campus. Together they house over 1000 students. Haksung Hall I and II are dedicated to female students, and Haksung Hall 3 to male students. On each floor there are shower and laundry facilities. Located in the central lounge area students will find a computer lab with full Internet access. In the basement area there are recreation rooms which include an exercise gym and games room. Each room is equipped with heating and air conditioning and is spacious enough to house three students. Each student has their own desk and storage space.
