Handong Global University

Founded in 1994, Handong Global University is a non-profit private higher education institution located in Pohang, North Gyeongsang. Officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Korea, Handong Global University (HGU) is a small (uniRank enrollment range: 4,000-4,999 students) coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Presbyterian religion. Handong Global University (HGU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 24 years old higher-education institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 20-30% making this South Korean higher education organization a very selective institution. International students are welcome to apply for enrollment.

Undergraduate

All Handong students enter the university with undeclared majors and no affiliation to any department. All students begin as part of the Global Leadership School (GLS). During the 1st year (freshman year), students are educated at the Global Leadership School in foreign languages, IT subjects, and basic humanities and the basic sciences in order to meet the demands of this era of globalization and information.

Eligibility

• Both the applicant and his/her parents must be native citizens of a foreign country(non-Korean citizens).
  Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university (or expected to receive a bachelor’s degree before Feb, 2020) or educational attainment equivalent to bachelor’s degree approved by law(16 years of elementary, junior/middle, high school and university education in foreign countries)
• Applicants who submit internationally authorized English test score which is taken within 2 years, such as TOEFL(IBT 80, PBT 550, CBT 213), TOEIC 700, TEPS 572(New TEPS 309), Toeic-Speaking130, TEPS-Speaking 51, Opic IM2, IELTS 5.5 or higher will be preferred. For those who does not have a score of any authorized English tests at the time of adimssion, his/her head professor is required to submit letter of proof for language proficiency. (Applicants who received their full education in  a country whose native language is English, do not need to submit their English test score). 

Scholarships

Awarded to highly-qualified international students from designated developing countries. Each year, up to 15 students, including freshmen and transferring students are selected.

Two types : 100% scholarship and 50% scholarship.
- Coverage during semesters: Admission fee, tuition fee, dormitory fee, meals, and allowance about 200,000 KRW per month
- Coverage during vacations: Dormitory fee, and meals (two meals a day)
* Seasonal semester's tuition fee is not included

Outstanding Entrance Grade Scholarship

Awarded to highly-qualified international students from both developing and develped countries. 
 - Top 10% students: Admission fee exemption and 50% deduction on tuition fee
 - Top 30% students: Admission fee exemption and 30% deduction on tuition fee
* The percentage will be calculated according to the total score of Step 1 (document screening) & Step 2 (interview) combined
