Scholarships

SETU Carlow awards gold & elite sports scholarships to students who have distinguished themselves, both academically and through their exceptional sporting ability. SETU Carlow has also announced details of its High Performance Entry Scheme, a new departure for the Institute that will award up to 50 extra CAO points for students who excel outside the classroom in three key areas - Innovation/Entrepreneurship, Active Citizenship and Sport. 

Taught Postgraduate Programmes

South East Technological University has a range of high quality postgraduate programmes that offer suitably qualified primary degree holders (NFQ Level 8) exciting opportunities to progress to higher awards (Higher Diploma, Masters, Doctoral degrees). These opportunities may be undertaken by research or thesis, or through taught programmes. Programmes are available in full-time and/or part-time modes across all of our campuses.

Postgraduate Research

Research Masters

At SETU we offer you the chance to achieve two types of Research Postgraduate Qualifications.

• Degree of Master (Research)
• Degree of Doctor of Philosophy

Masters Degree (NFQ Level 9)

SETU offers two types of Masters degree programme: taught Masters programmes and research Masters programmes.

The taught Masters degree is awarded following the completion of a programme of one to two years duration (typically 90 ECTS credits). Entry to a taught programme leading to a Masters award is typically for holders of Honours Bachelor degrees. In certain circumstances, entry to such programmes may be considered for holders of Ordinary Bachelor Degrees or equivalent.

Research Masters Degree programmes are typically of two years duration (typically 90 ECTS credits) where learners undertake a substantial piece of research. The project is carried out under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. Learning outcomes at this level relate to the demonstration of knowledge and understanding at the forefront of a field of learning.  Outcomes relate to the application of knowledge, understanding and problem solving abilities in new or unfamiliar contexts related to the field of study. The outcomes are associated with an ability to integrate knowledge, handle complexity and formulate judgements.

An Irish Masters Degree is compatible with completion of the Bologna Second Cycle. 

Accommodation

Homeowners and landlords can now advertise directly to students in Carlow, Wexford and Waterford using SETU’s StudentPad. 

We look forward to welcoming many new students to Carlow for the first time in September. Many students coming to Carlow for college will be renting accommodation from landlords. As always when doing any business online, try to ensure that the source is trustworthy.

• Make sure you see the property before you pay for it.
• Tenants should not pay large deposits in advance without viewing inside the property and meeting the landlord of the property.
• In general tenants should always meet the Landlord of the property face-to-face, in the property being rented, prior to entering in to any arrangement.

SETUStudentPad is a website to help connect SETU students in Carlow, Waterford and Wexford with homeowners with a room to rent, landlords with a house or apartment and individuals looking for a flat mate or housemate.
