The University of East London is a university in the East End of London, England. It has more than 23,000 students and is located on two campuses in Docklands and Stratford.
The University was created in 1970 as a result of the merger of higher education colleges, including the "West Ham Technical Institute" in Stratford and the "South East Essex Technical College" in the Barking area. It was originally named "North East London Polytechnic" and changed its name in 1989 to "East London Polytechnic". In 1992, the institute was granted university status and was named "University of East London". Although UEL refers to "new universities", its extensive history symbolizes the dramatic changes in British education in the late 19th century and into the 20th century.
Faculties
There are also three other schools responsible for administrative matters: the Combined Course School, the Graduate School, and UEL-connect (responsible for distance learning, Internet education, and short courses).
Like other British universities, the University of East London offers training both for obtaining a first higher education and for continuing their studies (Master's, doctor's, MBA).
