University of Kyrenia (GU) completed the necessary legal infrastructure procedures in 2013, with the permission of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ministry of National Education, and subsequently, the TRNC Higher Education Planning, Supervision, Accreditation and Supervision Board (YODAK) dated 19 March 2013 and 33/ With the decision numbered 2006-12, it was established in the TRNC in Girne, one of the historical and most beautiful cities of Cyprus.

From its partner university, it has taken over the Maritime, Marine Management and Management, Marine Sciences faculties, Maritime Transportation Management Engineering Graduate Program and Maritime Vocational School programs, which stand out with their deep-rooted maritime education tradition, together with all their infrastructure and superstructure. Thus, the University of Kyrenia has gained the necessary infrastructure for its students, instructors and education from the moment it was founded, and it has been structured as an ideal higher education institution with the experience from the past even when starting to work.

Our programs are approved by YÖK and YODAK

University of Kyrenia has made an official application to the Republic of Turkey Higher Education Council (YÖK) in accordance with the relevant regulations and legislation, following the permission of YODAK. In its meeting dated 16.01.2014, YÖK General Assembly approved the decision to establish the University of Kyrenia, and with the decision that formed the history of our university with the letter dated 28.01.2014 and numbered 75850160.301.01.182, its official establishment was realized, and education and training began with a total of 10 programs in the field of maritime in its first year.

Our university, which started its education and training activities with the opportunities provided by its sister institution, Near East University, in less than a year, started to create its own campus on a 27-decare campus located on the coastline of Girne Karakum. Its foundation was laid on September 27, 2013 with a ceremony with wide participation, and it moved to its campus, which was put into service on November 15, 2015, the TRNC Republic Day.
