Flinders University is a public university in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 1966, it was named in honor of British navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.
Flinders is a verdant university and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group. Academically, the university pioneered a cross-disciplinary approach to education, and its faculties of medicine and the humanities are ranked among the nation's top 10.
The university is ranked within the world's top 500 institutions in the Academic Ranking of World Universities. In January 2019, Times Higher Education rankings of the world’s top universities rank Flinders in the 251 – 300th bracket.
There are three main campuses situated in Bedford Park, Victoria Square and Tonsley. There are also buildings at a number of regional locations across South Australia, South West Australia and the Northern Territory. In 2015, the Flinders University opened a new campus at Tonsley, the former site of the Mitsubishi Motors Australia plant. It houses the School of Computer Science, Engineering and Mathematics, and the Centre for Nanoscale Science and Technology.

Accommodation
Unless you have secured accommodation at University Hall or in the Deirdre Jordan Village through Flinders Living you will need to consider arranging temporary accommodation, by booking a hotel or hostel room or a holiday apartment. New students will be required to book their own temporary accommodation.
International Student Services offers a free accommodation service leading up to the beginning of the semester to assist you with the search for permanent accommodation.
Our strong recommendation is to travel to the property by public transport so you can be sure it is convenient for you to travel between your university campus and your accommodation.
If you are considering living off campus in rental accommodation please take the time to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations concerning rental agreements as covered by South Australian legislation.
Homestay is another accommodation option. Host families offer students a room in their home as well as meals and a supportive environment. A host family may be a two-parent or single parent family, a couple or a single person. All host families are checked and provided with training on their responsibilities. International students at Flinders who are under 18 and not living with a parent or legal guardian must stay in approved Homestay accommodation. More information on Flinders’ approved homestay provider is available on the Australian Homestay Network website.
