Prague Film School

Top:

Prague Film School is a private film school in the Czech Republic, providing training in the fields of cinematography, directing, screenwriting, editing and acting for film. Prague Film School was founded to provide international students with an alternative to more expensive film programs in the United States and more theory-driven film academies in Europe, with the idea of offering one-year training courses to aspiring filmmakers. Originally a narrative film course, Prague Film School expanded in 2007, introducing documentary and acting for film programs in later years and both longer and shorter courses. Today the school accepts approximately 200 students per year.

Film making

Prague Film School filmmaking programs provide foundation training and specialization studies in the areas of screenwriting, directing cinematography, and post-production. Combing lectures and practical work in the classroom with an intensive production load outside of class, Prague Film School inculcates the practical skills and theoretical knowledge to make quality films.

Acting for film

The Prague Film School Acting for Film Program offers an intensive, conservatory style curriculum instructing both the art and the craft of acting for the camera. While the vast majority of acting courses world-wide train students for theater, it’s actually screen acting that offers the bulk of career opportunities. It’s also screen acting that allows actors to engage with the largest audiences, across time and geography.

Documentary

The Documentary Film Program at Prague Film School aims at creating the independent documentary filmmaker. Through intensive practical and theoretical work, each student learns how to adapt the narrative tools of drama to tell truthful stories about the real world that simultaneously entertain, educate and inspire audiences. The course is designed to develop professional-level production and post production skills.

Prague Film School trains aspiring filmmakers and actors to become film professionals. This is accomplished through a praxis-heavy curriculum involving each student in up to 30 productions annually, many of which end up in the Industry’s top film festivals.

The prevailing ethos of Prague Film School is a mix of European art-house and American independent cinemas. Up to 100 filmmakers annually enroll, drawn from the best schools around the globe and from a wide range of professions and backgrounds.

The language of instruction is English.

Different from many national film academies or major private film schools, Prague Film School is characterized by its intimate size, promoting close work relations with teachers and young filmmakers and affording easy access to filmmaking facilities.

Based in Prague, it’s the city of Prague itself that plays a leading role in the students’ experience at PFS. Professional productions come from all over the world to shoot in one of Europe’s most beautiful capitals. Students at Prague Film School have the city available to them all the time, as a classroom, as a home and as a film set.
