PASCAL English School aims for its pupils to know that in the today’s rapidly changing world it is an absolute necessity to be able to anticipate change as much as to respond to it adequately and timely. Pupils are encouraged to take an interest in issues of importance to the global community, such as human rights and the environment and to accept their shared responsibility as global citizens. In Years 1-3 (corresponding Years 7-9 of the UK educational system) the school offers a high standard of general education and sets the foundations for more specialised learning in Years 4-6. The subjects taught are: English, Drama, Greek, Classical Appreciation, French, Mathematics, History, Science (Physics, Chemistry and Biology), Geography, Religious Knowledge, Art, Music, Physical Education and Computing. All subjects are taught in English from Year 1, except Greek, Religious Knowledge and Classical Appreciation which are only taught to the Greek language native speaking pupils. External examinations support lessons after school are provided on an optional basis to the pupils in Years 4-6. The purpose of these lessons is exclusively to maximize pupil performance on the external examinations. PASCAL English School pupils graduate having completed Year 6. Since the school is a six-year secondary school there is no Year 7 (Year 13 of the UK educational system) which enables the pupils to gain a year in comparison to graduates of other English-medium secondary schools in Cyprus or UK.
The school has an efficient system of pastoral care which reaches out to every single pupil in school. A central principle underlying the pastoral system is that young people are most likely to be successful academically if they feel secure in their school environment. To this end, the school places great emphasis on the importance of effective induction and on-going guidance for each pupil.
Form teachers are the first point of reference in matters of general welfare and discipline, with Heads of Year, Senior Masters/Mistresses and Head of School providing additional support. Some of the methods through which the pastoral care aims are achieved are:
Our graduates move on successfully and with confidence to their tertiary education. They obtain university placement at high ranking universities, mainly in the UK, Europe, USA and Canada. Generally, they prove to have successful careers. Even in the years after graduation they continue to maintain in touch with the school through the Alumni Association or through direct contribution to the school life and events, e.g. speaking to pupils regarding their profession.
Pupil well-being and happiness are of paramount importance. Boarding pupils are supervised at all times.
