Edge Hill University

Edge Hill University is a campus-based public university in Ormskirk, Lancashire, England, which opened in 1885 as Edge Hill College, the first non-denominational teacher training college for women in England, before admitting its first male students in 1959. In 2005, Edge Hill was granted Taught Degree Awarding Powers by the Privy Council and became Edge Hill University on 18 May 2006.

Edge Hill University is based on a 160-acre (650,000 m2) campus in Ormskirk, the administrative center of West Lancashire. It is midway between Liverpool and the county town of Preston.

The University used to operate from the Woodlands campus based in Chorley, central Lancashire. Where it offered continuing professional development programs and part-time study. However in recent years operations have been centralized back to the main University campus.

Most of the University's subjects and departments are based in specialist buildings developed since the 1990s: Faculty of Education, Faculty of Health and Social Care, Business School, BioSciences, GeoSciences, Creative Edge (Media and Social Sciences), Performing Arts, the Wilson Centre (Sport and Physical Activity) and Psychology. The Tech Hub was opened in 2016 by entrepreneur Sir Robin Saxby.

The university also operates a campus in Manchester City center in the St. James Buildings, Manchester mainly for medical science courses.

Scholarships

Edge Hill University has a competitive range of International Scholarships. All full-time, overseas fee paying students will be automatically considered for the award of a scholarship when applying for a programme of studies.

• International Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is worth £1,200 towards the tuition fees of the International Foundation Programme and will be awarded based on academic merit. Successful students will be notified on their offer letter, with the award being made at the universities discretion.

All students who progress successfully from the International Foundation Programme onto a full Undergraduate Degree will receive a £3,975 scholarship towards the first year of their Undergraduate Tuition fees. Successful students will be notified on their offer letter, with the award being made at the university’s discretion.

• Undergraduate Development Scholarship

This scholarship is for students starting an Undergraduate (Bachelor’s) degree and is worth up to £1,200 towards the first year tuition fees. Successful students will be notified on their offer letter, with the award being made at the university’s discretion.

• International Achievement Scholarship (current students only)

This scholarship is for Undergraduate students and is worth £2,000 toward your next year’s tuition fees. This is for student who display academic excellence, with an average mark of no less than 70%. In order to be eligible you must have no outstanding tuition or accommodation fees. This scholarship will be confirmed after the Assessment Board.

• PhD Scholarship

Successful candidates will receive £3,800 discounted from their fees.
