The American Jewish Academy was founded in 1996 by Maurice Chico Sabbah and his wife, Zmira. In 1999, the founding family acquired 100 acres of forest with a lake in Greensboro, North Carolina. In 2001, the American Hebrew Academy opened its doors to 77 students. They began program on a campus built on ecologically clean land using advanced technologies integrated into each classroom. Today, students, teachers enjoy modern classrooms, sports facilities, student dormitories and modern technologies in a caring, but strict academic environment with a rich Jewish culture, global perspectives.

There are several student houses on campus. Students are accommodated by two people in the room, each room is equipped with wireless access to the network. Residences of 2500 square meters accommodate 18-22 people. The student houses have rest rooms, a kitchen, a laundry room, and large bathrooms.
Many teachers, consultants, coaches, program managers live in residences as mentors. They cook together, celebrate Shabbat, are ready to support each other, to create a warm atmosphere away from home. Student residences are supervised by a team of curators, student leaders living in the house.
Graduates of the American Hebrew Academy enter prestigious colleges, universities, and occupy leadership positions in business, medicine, law, finance, social services, and the Jewish community in the United States, Israel, and the world. 44% of the graduates of the boarding school reach the position of top management by mid-career.

All international students are enrolled in the ESOL program, which provides intensive English language instruction for students who are not native English speakers.
