Vyatka State University was founded in 1963. In 2016, Vyatka State Humanitarian University became a part of VyatSU. VyatSU became one of the 11 winners of the competition of the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia for the creation of flagship regional universities. Since 2013, the university annually confirms the status of an effective university in accordance with the results of federal monitoring. The university has 23 190 students and postgraduates. VyatSU employs 936 teachers, of whom 655 are doctors and candidates of science.
