The University of Chester is a public university located in Chester, England. The university originated as the first purpose-built teacher training college in the UK. As a university, it now occupies five campus sites in and around Chester, one in Warrington, and a University Centre in Shrewsbury. It offers a range of foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as undertaking academic research.

The university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the Cathedrals Group, the North West Universities Association and Universities UK.

Entry Requirements

Students who don’t meet the below entry requirements are still encouraged to apply as we consider each application on an individual basis. Consideration will be given to students who can prove they are able to fulfill course requirements and meet the academic standards expected.

Foundation Year

  • Certificate of Secondary Education

Undergraduate Study

  • Diploma of Completed Specialized Secondary Education with good grades
  • Year 1 of a Bachelor's degree with good grades
  • 2-3 years of a Bachelor's degree with good grades may be considered for 2nd or 3rd years entry

Postgraduate Study

Bachelor Degree (Bakalav)/ Specialist Diploma with UK equivalent of a 2:2

English language entry requirements

  • IELTS 6.0 (Undergraduate), IELTS 6.5 (Graduate)
  • TOEFL iBT Overall score: 79 (Undergraduate), Overall score: 88 (Graduate)
  • PTE Academic 61 overall (Undergraduate), 65 overall (Graduate)

Accommodation

International Students who want to live either at Chester or Warrington can contact the accommodation office by e-mail.

You will be sent further information on how to apply for accommodation once you have made your deposit payment, or made us your Firm or Insurance choice on UCAS. 

When you are deciding where to live while you are studying at Chester, please be aware that the Home Office can ask the University to provide details of the UK address of individual students. If you choose to live outside the Chester area (or Warrington or Shrewsbury area if your program is based there) your visa may be at risk. To avoid such issues, students should live within 60 minutes travel (i.e. 30 miles) from their place of study.
