TOP1000 National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI" (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute)-one of the first two national research universities in Russia (along with MISiS), was founded on April 8, 2009 on the basis of the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (State University)[1].

The history goes back to the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Ammunition (MMIB), founded on November 22, 1942. Classes began on January 1, 1943. The first address of the institute is Kirova Street (now Myasnitskaya), 21. The initial goal of the institute was to train specialists for the military and nuclear programs of the Soviet Union. In 1945, it was renamed the Moscow Mechanical Institute, and in 1953-the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI). Since 1993 — Moscow State Engineering and Physics Institute (Technical University). Since 2003 — Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (State University). In 2009, the university became one of the winners of the federal competition for the status of a national research university and was renamed the National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI".

Full name-Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education "National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI".
