Liverpool John Moores University (abbreviated LJMU) is a public research university in the city of Liverpool, England. The university can trace its origins to the Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts, established in 1823. This later merged to become Liverpool Polytechnic. In 1992, following an Act of Parliament, the Liverpool Polytechnic became what is now Liverpool John Moores University. It is named after Sir John Moores, a local businessman and philanthropist, who donated to the university's precursor institutions.
The university had 22,445 students in 2016/17, of which 18,325 are undergraduate students and 4,115 are postgraduate, making it the 35th largest university in the UK by total student population.
It is a member of the University Alliance, the Northern Consortium and the European University Association.

Moving to a new country to live and study is an exciting challenge and their team is here to help you settle quickly into your new home.
International students are welcomed at all the accommodation available to home students, and full-time International students (from both inside and outside the EU) can request accommodation using the same process as UK students.
However, the following students should not follow this process:
Students who will attending LJMU on exchange programmes such as ERASMUS or SOCRATES – they should visit Exchange students for more information
Please note that all non-UK students will be required to pay for their accommodation in full before their arrival in the UK, unless they can provide a UK resident guarantor who is acceptable to the owner of their chosen accommodation.
