For more than 110 years, Firbank has been an important part of the Bayside community. We are proud of our strong traditions and heritage, but we haven’t let that limit progress. At Firbank, we take great pride in having some of the most up-to-date facilities and programs in Australia, including our digital learning practices. We have been well ahead in the digital learning space, even as other schools around the world continue adjusting to more flexible methods of delivering education.
Our exceptional staff help us stand out above the rest. We value team members who have a balanced and experienced worldview. Academics and high achievers, our teachers are leaders in their fields, imparting their knowledge from a place of experience and personal achievement.
Our vibrant, multicultural community reaches far beyond our school walls. Through our girls only and co-educational options, we offer more choice and flexibility for students to find the perfect campus where they will fit in. Later in life, the sense of belonging and the connections forged at Firbank evolve into priceless professional and community networks.
Firbank’s students are encouraged to have a voice and make active contributions to the School every day through their work in the classroom and the community. The Firbank learning journey is about becoming a continuous conqueror of life. We provide students with a balance between education and real-life experiences, so they can excel for years after leaving Firbank.
“The Boarding House is a place to learn, a place to relax, a place of comfort, friendship and independence. We are more than friends, we are sisters, we are family and Firbank is our home.” Captain of Boarders.
Since 1909, the Boarding House has been an integral part of life at Firbank in Melbourne. Students from rural Victoria, interstate and overseas live onsite in Tovell House, our purpose-built boarding facility. Year 12 students have their own study bedrooms and all other boarders are in twin-share study bedrooms. There is also a Health Centre adjacent to the Boarding House.
Students who board at Firbank are usually involved in a range of extra-curricular activities and are well integrated into the School community. On weekends, our boarders are free to leave the grounds and explore Melbourne with approved host families.
To ensure that our boarders get the most out of their time at Firbank, they are given support from academic staff during the day and supervised evening study times. They also have access to the School’s facilities including music and sporting facilities.
