Beechwood is a co-educational independent day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 3 -18, which comprises a Pre-Prep, Preparatory and Senior School. It is a thriving, happy and purposeful place where excellence and a love of learning are nurtured.

The children at Beechwood are at the heart of everything that we do. Their enthusiasm and passions are nurtured by a dedicated team of teachers who inspire our students to give of their very best both in and outside the classroom, at school and at home.

Their international day and boarding community for boys and girls aged 3-18 is set in 23 acres of beautiful parkland in the centre of Royal Tunbridge Wells. With 23 subjects at A Level including Photography, Art, Textiles, DT, Drama, Music, Psychology and Business Studies as well as the more traditional subjects they allow students at all levels to play to their strengths and study the subjects that really excite them.

Mission

  • To be a vibrant, caring school, providing an education rooted in our Catholic Christian faith and in the Sacred Heart tradition, where each person is known and loved..
  • To enable all who study here to discover their strengths and make the most of their talents within a nurturing and supportive community.
  • To foster spiritual and personal development and a sense of social responsibility.
  • To create an educational environment that nurtures creativity, encourages flexibility and embraces independence of thought.
  • To equip our pupils with the values, skills, and habits of mind that will help shape their future in a wider world.

Overseas Students

Students from overseas may not be able to comply with the usual entrance procedures. They will normally be required to complete the school’s own tests for overseas students in English and Mathematics. Selection will be based on performance in these tests and on a report from the student’s current school. Other criteria set out in this Admissions Policy will apply equally to students from overseas.

Entry

In the Preparatory School, entry is usually into Nursery (age 3), Reception (age 4) or Year 3 (age 7). In the Senior School entry is normally at age 11, 13 or 16, into Year 7, Year 9 or Year 12 respectively.

Selection Criteria

Selection for entry in any part of the school will be made on the basis of performance in entrance tests, the impression made during interview and/or a trial day, and on reports from the prospective student’s current school. The single most important criterion used for selection, however, is that the prospective student should be able to meet and maintain the standards required by the school for all its students and should feel comfortable with the ethos to which the school aspires. In cases in which other factors are equal, preference may first be given to a sibling of an existing student.
