UCAELI offers English courses during the university academic year to support English proficiency development for enrolled UConn students and visiting scholars. UCAELI can provide additional proficiency assessments to assist in determining if a student or visiting scholar meets the minimum proficiency required by UConn.
WHERE DO STUDENTS LIVE?
On-campus: Students have options to live on campus in dormitories with university students Three styles of dormitories: traditional rooms with one roommate, suites, and apartments Dormitories are located all around the campus and are walking distance from classrooms Off-campus: Students can live in apartments or houses located in the community
TRANSPORTATION
Free shuttle buses bring students around campus with stops at dormitories, classroom buildings, and important places like the library and student center Local buses provide free transportation to shops and restaurants Daily buses provide transportation to cities outside the campus every hour from the Nash-Zimmer Transportation Center Transportation Center is located on campus
ACTIVITIES
Clubs Our students can join a university club: There are over 600 clubs at UConn! Sports UCAELI students can attend UConn athletic games for free. Join us to cheer for UConn’s famous basketball teams and experience an American football game. Trips Friday and weekend trips: UCAELI organizes trips after class on Fridays and on some weekends. Past trips have included visits to an apple orchard and an American family’s house to bake with fresh apples, The Basketball Hall of Fame, museums, hiking trails, and day trips to Boston and New York City
IMPORTANT FEATURES OF ALL CLASSES AT UCAELI:
UCAELI Proficiency Certificate can be used in place of a TOEFL or IELTS test score to satisfy the English proficiency requirements of university admissions Students create electronic English learning portfolios to share their English skills and accomplishments with their teachers, classmates, and professional contacts Courses include study skills and strategies to ensure student success at the university level and the professional level With the guidance of a UCAELI teacher, high intermediate and advanced students can observe or take a university course for credit
