LAB University of Applied science

LAB has 8 900 students, and it is the sixth largest university of applied sciences in Finland.

LAB represents the vision and operating culture of the new university of applied sciences focusing on innovation, business and industry. It depicts an active approach where different people and experts create something new together with business enterprises. The name LAB is easy to pronounce in both Finnish and English and establishes a link to the LUT Universities.

Lahti University of Applied Sciences and Saimaa University of Applied Sciences merged end of the year of 2019, establishing a completely new institution: the LAB University of Applied Sciences. LAB started its operation on 1 January 2020.

Studies

We offer studies for exchange students in all our study fields. All available courses for exchange students are taught in English and are usually second or third year studies.

Bachelor's Degree Programmes

Studies at the universities of applied sciences are practice-oriented alternatives to traditional university education in Finland. Studies at UAS give the students an excellent combination of hands-on skills along with a strong theoretical knowledge base.

At the LAB University of Applied Sciences, English degree programmes are offered in the fields of Engineering, Design, Business, Tourism and Hospitality and Health Care. On-the-job-training is an integral part of the studies, and includes projects done in cooperation with employers and companies in the field. 

Master's Degree Programmes

At LAB University of Applied Sciences we offer Master's Degree Programmes both in Finnish and in English. We have twenty Master's Degree Programmes in total and in two of these the teaching language is English. The duration of the programmes vary between 60-90 credits, including a thesis. They require about 2 years of part-time study.

The requirements for applying for master level studies include at least a previous Bachelor's degree and two years of work experience in the chosen field. 

Academic Library 

You can get yourself a personal library card from the academic library of LAB University of Applied Sciences. The library card is available for free and applied online. In Lahti the library is located at the NiemiCampus.

Student Meals

As an exchange student at LAB you will get a student price meal in our campus restaurants​. The price per lunch is 2.10 - 4.95 €.

Sport Activities

MOVEO  provides high quality, affordable and versatile sports services for higher education students. MOVEO members get an access to gym and group exercise lessons. 

Tutor Students

All exchange students will get their own personal tutor student. The tutor student will be in contact with you before your arrival in Finland, meet you on your arrival in Lahti Travel Centre and show you around LAB and Lahti city. Tutor students will also help and support you during your whole exchange period in Finland.

The tutor students are second year and older degree students at LAB. You can ask the tutors anything, the answer is not always known, but at least they know where to get help. Besides helping you, the tutors will also take care that you enjoy your student life by arranging different kinds of events during the academic year.

Remember though, that the best thing of being in a foreign country is to find things out by your own and to notice that you really are able to survive in new surroundings, although it may not always be easy. This gives you the best memories and experiences.
